Message from our CEO, Michelle Thompson, about Remote Lab updates at ORI:
Hello everyone!
We’ve upgraded our FPGA stations in Remote Lab West. This will ripple outward to Remote Lab South as well.
There are three stations now available remotely. Free for #opensource work, with dedicated volunteer staff.
-
Xilinx zc706 + Analog Devices ADRV9009 Intended to continue support for space and terrestrial broadband transceiver work for Haifuraiya and similar projects.
-
Xilinx zcu102 + Analog Devices ADRV9002 Intended to serve Neptune, the OFDM low-latency drone and aerospace datalink project, and similar projects.
-
Analog Devices PLUTO SDR Remote JTAG access.
The Analog Devices ADRV9371 will be retired and offered for sale.
The zcu106 has been set aside in reserve upon request. The video chip on the zcu106 is desirable for Neptune, but the zcu102 has much better tools support at this time.
The Trenz gear for the ADRV9371 will be offered for sale.
The USRP X310 will be retired and offered for sale.
Why?
The 9371 did not get designed in to long-term commercial work out there in the marketplace like it looked like it would. It’s an excellent chip with JESD204B interface and a lot of solid design.
The 9009 is a successor to the 9371 and has been designed into long-term commercial products. It has JESD204B interface as well and it did get support in the market that the 9371 did not manage to get. It’s much easier for us as an amateur and volunteer project to adapt to the 9009 than to keep doing extra work to use the 9371. We have already seen the benefits in terms of quicker response from Analog Devices, Mathworks, and active individual developers with respect to the 9009 path than the 9371.
The 9002 was selected for drone and aerospace applications and has good support.
If you’re on #fpga or #neptune you can see the progress in getting these stations accessible and our blocks integrated and demos working over the air.
Thank you to the many people making difficult and ambitious work like this possible! There is a very long list of people to thank, from individuals in the community, to participants on the project teams, to the companies and organizations we collaborate and work with, and multiple foundations that have generously funded our work.
